Calculating Planning Parameters—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running the planning data calculations.

Windows:
Inventory Part/Planning Data

  1. Review your inventory parts to verify that the data needed for updating planning data is entered, i.e., service rate, inventory interest, ordering cost and predicted yearly consumption.

Required Data

Sales Data

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you the required data that has to be entered to be able to perform the main exercise below.

  1. Process a large number of customer orders for different parts, and different customers over a period of several months.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to perform the recalculation of planning parameters.

Some time has passed since the latest planning parameter update. Your task is to ensure that the latest statistics are reflected in the planning parameters.

Calculating Planning Parameters

  1. Open the Calculate Planning Data dialog window.
  2. Verify that default values are correct, and submit the job.
  3. Study the results in the Inventory Part Availability Planning window.
  4. Make selections in this window to list parts where the changes are significant. Use the application help documentation as a check list to explain what has happened.
  5. Open the Inventory Part/Planning Data tab. For each part that you do not want to accept the automatic changes, manually reset the planning parameters.
