Purpose: If the Basic Data and Requirement exercise has not been executed, you have to register your own Maintenance Codes here as you will need them for the exercises below.

Maintenance Code per Serial Part Revision

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to define the maintenance codes that are to be used for the part revision. Instructions defined for the part revision can be connected to the maintenance code defined here.

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Maintenance Codes per Serial Part Revision window.
  2. Create new records (F5) for the following data:

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these lessons are to learn how to register maintenance instructions to be used for planned maintenance tasks (Interval Based, Condition Based and Modifications).

Create Maintenance Instruction - Daily Engine Inspection

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to register a new instruction. In this exercise you will register an instruction for daily inspection of engine turbine. Material, equipment or facilities are not required to do this check. This inspection is an important safety routine.

Windows:
Instruction

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Instruction window.
  2. Create new record (F5) and enter Part Number X747-900, Revision n, Operation Number n072112, Operation Revision * and a proper Description.
  3. Click the Operation tab, enter Type XCHK, Location XENG and Strategy XPER.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP3.
  5. Specify Product Number 7X7 and Model Number X747-90n.
  6. Specify Function Number 7200, Sub Function 7250 and Bottom Level 7251 (Turbine Blade).
  7. Enter Affected Part No X72ENG7010 and Affected Part Rev *
  8. Enter Competence XMECH, No. Of Persons to 1 and Hour Cons. to 0.5hrs
  9. Enter a brief Work Description on how to do a visual inspection of the turbine section.
  10. Save the information (F12).
  11. Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the Maintenance Code sub tab.
  12. Create new record (F5) and specify where to include this. Specify Maint Code nXDAY.
  13. Save the information (F12).
  14. Click the Criticality tab.
  15. Select Criticality Code Safety and Criticality Level Important.
  16. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - Wheel inspection

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to register a new instruction. In this exercise you will register an instruction for periodic check of landing wheels (tyre and rims). You don't need any spare parts (material), but you need a pressure gauge to check tyre pressure. A technician completes the job in 15 minutes. This check will be included in the A-check of the Aircraft.

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Instruction window.
  2. Create a new record (F5) and enter Part Number X747-900, Revision n, Operation Number n032110, Operation Revision * and a proper description.
  3. Click the Operation tab, enter Type XCHK, Location XNLG and Strategy XPER.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP3.
  5. Specify Product Number 7X7 and Model Number X747-90n.
  6. Specify Function Number 3200, Sub Function 3220 and Bottom Level 3224 (Tyre)
  7. Enter Affected Part No X32WHE7002 and Affected Part Rev n.
  8. Enter Competence XMECH, No. Of Persons 1 and Hour Cons. 0.25
  9. Enter a brief Work Description on how to check the wheel.
  10. Save the information (F12).
  11. Click the Tools and Facilities tab.
  12. Create a new record (F5) and enter Tool/Facility Type GAUGE, Tool/Facility ID XAIR - Air Pressure Gauge, Quantity 1 and Planned Hour Consumption 0.25
  13. Save the information (F12).
  14. Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the Maintenance Code sub tab.
  15. Create a new record (F5) and include this check with Maint Code nXA.
  16. Save the information (F12).
  17. Click the Criticality tab.
  18. Select Criticality Code Safety and Criticality Level Important.
  19. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - Oil refill on Nose Landing Gear

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to register a new instruction. In this exercise you will register an instruction for refill of hydraulic fluid on the shock absorbing inner cylinder of the Nose Landing Gear. This procedure should be included in the A-check. You need about 1.5 liter of hydraulic oil and a hydraulic pressure test tool. A technician takes about 2 hours to complete this job. This maintenance is slightly important for safety reasons.

  1. Open the Instruction window.
  2. Create a new record (F5) and enter Part Number X32NLG7001, Revision n, Operation Number n032111, Operation Revision * and a proper description.
  3. Click the Operation tab, enter Type XPRV, Location XNLG and Strategy XPER.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP2.
  5. Specify Product Number 7X7 and Model Number X747-90n.
  6. Specify Function Number 3200, Sub Function 3220 and Bottom Level 3226 (Shock Absorber)
  7. Enter Affected Part No X32CYL7005, Affected Part Revision *, 
  8. Enter Competence XMECH, No. Of Persons 1 and Hour Cons. 2.0.
  9. Enter a brief Work Description on how to check oil level and refill with Hydraulic Fluid.
  10. Save the information(F12).
  11. Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the Maintenance Code sub tab.
  12. Create a new record (F5) and specify where to include the oil check/refill. Specify Maint Code nXA (A-check).
  13. Save the information(F12).
  14. Click the Material List tab.
  15. Create a new record (F5) and enter Sub Part Number X32HDF7005, Sub Part Revision *, Manufacturer Number V53655 and Manufacturer Part Number S22890. Specify Quantity 1.5 Litre (liter).
  16. Save the information (F12).
  17. Click the Tools and Facilities tab.
  18. Create a new record (F5) and enter Tool/Facility Type MISCTOOL, Tool/Facility ID XHPT - High Pressure Tester, Quantity 1 and Planned Hour Consumption 2.0.
  19. Save the information (F12).
  20. Click the Criticality tab.
  21. Select Criticality Code Safety and Criticality Level Important.
  22. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - Landing Wheel replacement 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to register an instruction. In this exercise you will register how to replace a landing wheel. You need a jack for this job. Two mechanical workers require 1 hour to finish this job. This instruction will be used for condition based maintenance (no Maintenance Code).

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Instruction window.
  2. Create a new record (F5) and enter Part Number X32WHE7002, Revision n, Operation Number n032212, Operation Revision * and a proper description.
  3. Click the Operation tab and enter Type XLIN and Strategy XCON. Location is Nose Landing Gear.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP2.
  5. Specify Product/Model Number 7X7 and X747-90n, and then the actual function breakdown 3200/3220
  6. Enter Affected Part No X32WHE7002, Affected Part Rev n.
  7. Enter Competence XMECH, No. Of Persons 2 and Hour Cons. 1
  8. Write a short Work Description.
  9. Save the information (F12).
  10. Click the Material List tab.
  11. Create a new record (F5) and enter Sub Part Number X32WHE7002, Sub Part Revision n, Manufacturer Number V13545,  Manufacturer Part Number W123445 and.Quantity 1.
  12. Save the information (F12).
  13. Click the Tools and Facilities tab.
  14. Create a new record (F5) and enter Tool/Facility Type JACK, Tool/Facility ID XJAC, Quantity 1 and Planned Hour Consumption 2.0.
  15. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - NLG replacement

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to copy an existing instruction on how to replace a Nose Landing Gear on your X747-900 aircraft revision. An identical instruction exists for the "*" revision of the 747-900, and you will use this and then add and modify information slightly.

Windows:
Instruction

  1. Open the Instruction window and create a new record (F5).
  2. Enter Part Number X32NLG7001, Rev n, Operation Number n032201, Operation Revision 1 and enter a proper description.
  3. Click the Operation tab and specify Type XHVY, Location XNLG and Strategy XINT.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP4.
  5. Specify Product/Model Number 7X7 and X747-90n, and then the actual function breakdown 3200/3220
  6. Enter Affected Part Number X32NLG7001and Affected Part Rev n.
  7. Specify Competence XMECH, No of Persons 2 and Work Consumption 5 hours.
  8. Open a new window and query (F3) for Operation No 32201.
  9. Copy the Work Description and paste into your operation. 
  10. Save the information (F12).
  11. Click the Material List tab.
  12. Create a new record (F5) and enter Sub Part Number X32NLG7001, Sub Part Revision n, Manufacturer Number V53655 and Manufacturer Part Number S22890. Specify Quantity 1
  13. Save the information (F12).
  14. Click the Tools and Facilities tab.
  15. Create a new record F5) and enter Tool/Facility Type JACK, Tool/Facility ID XJAC - Jack, 200 tons, Quantity 1 and Planned Hour Consumption 2.0.
  16. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - NLG overhaul

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to register an instruction on how to overhaul a disconnected nose landing gear. You need some spare parts: Seal Kit and Hydraulic Fluid (3 liters). A maintenance facility for 6 hours is required, and two mechanical workers need 8 hours to finish this job. This job should be linked to the XOHL maintenance code.

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Instruction window and create new record (F5).
  2. Specify Part Number X32NLG7001, Rev n, Operation Number n032501, Operation Revision * and enter a proper description.
  3. Specify Instruction Type XHVY, Strategy XREP and a proper Location.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP4.
  5. Specify Product/Model Number 7X7 and X747-90n, and then the actual function breakdown 3200/3220
  6. Enter Affected Part Number X32NLG7001, Affected Part Rev n.
  7. Enter proper time consumption for the work.
  8. Write a short Work Description and save the information (F12).
  9. Click the Material List tab and specify 
    Sub Part Number X32SEL7011 (Seal Kit), 1 unit
    Sub Part Number X32HDF7005 (Hydraulic Fluid), 3 liter.
  10. Save the information (F12).
  11. Click the Tools and Facilities tab and specify a maintenance facility for 6 hrs. 
  12. Save the information (F12).
  13. Click the Zones tab and specify Zone ID n-10 and Access Panel ID nAC1.
  14. Save the information (F12).
  15. Click the Sign Off Req. tab and specify sign off requirement type Executor.
  16. Save the information (F12).
  17. Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the Maintenance Code subtab.
  18. Specify Maint Code nXOHL. 
  19. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - NLG Wheel Axle modification

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to register an instruction on a modification of Wheel Axle on the Nose Landing Gear. This modification improves the 3222 Nose Landing Gear Strut/Axle function of the A/C. You need a Wheel Axle with revision 1 and a new Mounting Kit to mount the wheel on the new Axle. A maintenance facility for 4 hours is required, and a mechanical operator needs 4 hours to finish this job. Later on, this instruction will be used in a modification with Mod Code called nNEWAXL.

  1. Open the Instruction window and create a new record (F5).
  2. Specify Part Number X747-900, Rev n, Operation Number n032901, Operation Revision * and enter a proper description.
  3. Specify Instruction Type XMOD, Strategy XREP and Location XNLG.
  4. Specify Execution Phase nXEP1.
  5. Specify Product/Model Number 7X7 and X747-90n, and then the actual function breakdown 3200/3220/3222.
  6. Enter Affected Part Number X32AXL7003, Affected Part Rev *.
  7. Enter proper time consumption for the work.
  8. Enter a brief Work Description on how to dismount wheel and axle and then mount with a new axle revision.
  9. Click the Material List tab and specify 
    Sub Part Number X32AXL7003, Rev 1 (Wheel Axle), 1 unit
    Sub Part Number X32MNT7003, Rev *(Mounting Kit), 1 unit.
  10. Save the information (F12).
  11. Click the Tools and Facilities tab and specify a maintenance facility for 4 hrs.
  12. Save the information (F12).
  13. Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the Modification sub tab.
  14. Specify Modification Code nNEWAXL.
  15. Save the information (F12).

Create Maintenance Instruction - Replace Nose Landing Gear

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to register an instruction on a replacement of the Nose Landing Gear. This can be broken down into more detailed activities (subtasks), which can be sequenced into a logical order for performing the work.

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Instruction window and create a new record (F5).
  2. Enter Part Number X32NLG7001, Rev n, Operation Number n032902, Operation Revision * and enter a proper description.
  3. Click the Operation tab and specify Type XHVY, Location XNLG, Execution Phase nXEP1 and Strategy XINT.
  4. Specify Product/Model Number 7X7 and X747-90n, and then the actual function breakdown 3200/3220
  5. Enter Affected Part Number X32NLG7001and Affected Part Rev n.
  6. Specify Competence XMECH, No of Persons 2 and Work Consumption 5 hours.
  7. Enter a description of the work to be performed.
  8. Save the information (F12).
  9. Click the Subtasks tab and then click the Subtasks sub tab.
  10. Create a new record (F5).
  11. Enter the Subtask ID nSUB-1 and enter a suitable description.
  12. Enter Competence XMECH, No of Persons 1 and Hours Consumption 1.
  13. Enter a description of the work.
  14. Click the Sign Off Req. tab and specify sign off requirement type Inspector.
  15. Enter an inspection description.
  16. Save the information (F12).
  17. Create another subtask for the replacement.
  18. Click the Connect Task Codes tab and then click the Maintenance Code sub tab.
  19. Create a new record (F5) and specify Maint Code nXA (A-check).
  20. Save the information(F12).
  21. Click the Material List tab.
  22. Create a new record (F5) and enter Sub Part Number X32NLG7001, Sub Part Revision n, Manufacturer Number V53655 and Manufacturer Part Number S22890. Specify Quantity 1
  23. Save the information (F12).
  24. Click the Tools and Facilities tab.
  25. Create a new record (F5) and enter Tool/Facility Type JACK, Tool/Facility ID XJAC - Jack, 200 tons, Quantity 1 and Planned Hour Consumption 2.
  26. Click the Sequencing sub tab and create a new record (F5).
  27. Enter the Subtask ID of the subtask you created for the replacement.
  28. Specify nSUB-1 as the Preceding Subtask.
  29. Save the information (F12).
