Course Description for Manufacturing Standards

This course explains the fundamentals of the Manufacturing Standards functionality, including  Manufacturing Standards operational data needed for MRO Manufacturing. You will learn how to create and maintain basic application elements used for planning, production, and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO).

Course Length

The estimated time to complete this course is 15 hours, including 2 hours for the optional Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO).

Target Audience

This course was designed primarily for application consultants within Manufacturing and Distribution, or anyone else who is interested in a brief introduction to the basic data for manufacturing and, optionally, MRO.

Introduction

This chapter provides an introduction to the Manufacturing Standards process. It includes information that you need to know before beginning lessons in the other chapters. This chapter has the following introductory lessons:

• Introducing Manufacturing Standards: The basic principles and key terms in Manufacturing Standards.
• Introducing Routings:  The basic principles for a routing within IFS.
• Introducing Structures: The basic principles for a structure within IFS.

Prerequisites

Before taking lessons in this chapter, you should have a basic knowledge of how to work and navigate in IFS Applications.

Transfer from Engineering

This chapter provides an introduction to the engineering transfer process. The engineering transfer chapter provides information that you need to know before transferring data from IFS/PDM Configuration. This chapter has the following key lesson:

• Transferring from Engineering: Transfer parts and structures from IFS Engineering.

This chapter has the following extended lesson:

• Transferring from Engineering: Compare different engineering structures, compare design and manufacturing structures, and learn how to update a transfer.

Prerequisites

Before taking lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the introductory chapter in this course and have a basic knowledge of how to work and navigate in IFS Applications.

VIM Template Structure Transfer

This chapter provides an introduction to  basic principles surrounding transferring a structure from VIM for use with MRO within IFS. The chapter provides information that you need to know before transferring template structures from IFS/VIM. This chapter has the following key lesson:

• Transferring VIM Template Structure, key lesson: Transfer parts and structures from IFS VIM, outputs of the transfer process: e.g., inventory parts, manufacturing structures and manufacturing modification records.

This chapter has the following extended lesson:

• Transferring VIM Template Structure, extended lesson: Retransfer of VIM template structures, resolution of transfer problems, and separate  transfer of modifications only.

Prerequisites

Before taking lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the introductory chapter in this course and have a basic knowledge of how to work and navigate in IFS Applications. You should have an idea of  basic concepts of and IFS Application flows involved in MRO.

Target Audience

This course was designed primarily for application consultants working with the IFS Applications Complex Assembly MRO functionality and end users, in particular engineers, of the IFS Applications Complex Assembly MRO functionality.

MRO Manufacturing Operational Data

This chapter provides an introduction to the process of creating MRO manufacturing operational data: disposition codes, repair codes, discrepancy codes and maintenance levels. The chapter also discusses connecting that data to other entities, in the case of disposition codes, to customers and in the case of the rest, to parts. The MRO manufacturing operational data chapter provides information that you need to know before proceeding to the Execute Work Scope course. This chapter has five key lessons:

• Setting up Disposition Codes: Enter basic data for Disposition Codes and associate Disposition Codes with customers.
• Setting up Discrepancy Codes: Enter basic data for Discrepancy Codes and associate Discrepancy Codes with parts.
• Setting up Repair Codes: Enter basic data for Repair Codes and associate Repair Codes with parts.
• Connecting Discrepancy Codes and Repair Codes: Learn how to connect Discrepancy Codes abd associate Discrepancy Codes with Repair Codes.
• Setting Up Maintenance Levels: Enter basic data for Maintenance Levels and associate Maintenance Levels with parts.

This chapter has the no extended lessons.

Before taking lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the introductory chapter in this course and have a basic knowledge of how to work and navigate in IFS Applications. You should have an idea of basic concepts of and IFS Application flows involved in MRO.

This course was designed primarily for application consultants working with the IFS Applications Complex Assembly MRO functionality and end users of the IFS Applications Complex Assembly MRO functionality.

Structures

This chapter provides information on how to define and maintain structures and the different structures used within a manufacturing process. This chapter has the following key lessons:

• Creating Product Structure: Build a product structure and view a structure at different levels.
• Creating Recipe Structure: Build a recipe structure and recalculate it.
• Creating Plan Structure: Build a planning structure and view it at different levels.
• Handling Revisions: Create new revisions and the rules governing the handling of revisions.

This chapter has the following extended lessons:

• Extending Product Structure: Enter a structure serial range, use a phantom consumed component and by-product, and learn how to use scrap within a structure.
• Handling Structure Alternates: Enter new alternates manually or using copy function. Learn the difference of  serial range and date range for alternates.
• Defining Alternate Component: Enter alternate components, and learn that they work for repetitive and discrete Manufacturing.
• Phasing Out or Replacing Structure Component: Phase out a component, and replace a structure component.
• Updating Product/Family Code: Update the product family/product code, and learn how the breakdown is performed.
• Connecting Work Guideline to Component: Connect work guidelines to objects.

Before taking  lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the introductory chapter in this course and have a basic knowledge of how to work and navigate in IFS Applications.

This course was designed primarily for application consultants within Manufacturing and Distribution, or employees working in manufacturing departments.  

Routings

This chapter provides information on how to define and maintain routings used within a manufacturing process. This chapter has the following key lessons:

• Creating Routing: Create a routing, and learn about the key data needed and the options that are available. 
• Handling Revision: Create new revisions, and learn about the rules governing the handling of revisions.
• Calculating Manufacturing Lead Time: Perform the calculation, and learn what variables affect calculated lead-time.

This chapter has the following extended lessons:

• Extending Routing: Use and understand standard operations, routing template, serial range, connecting tool, and alternate work center.
• Handling Routing Alternates: Enter new alternates manually or using the copy function. Learn the difference of  serial range and date range for alternates.
• Connecting Work Guideline to Operation: Connect work guidelines to objects.
• Creating Subcontracting Operations: Enter a subcontracting operation and use the flow for a subcontracting component.

Before taking lessons in this chapter, you should have completed the introductory chapter in this course and have a basic knowledge about how to work and navigate in IFS Applications.
