Course Description for Manage Line Maintenance

This course gives the student an understanding of how to perform line maintenance activities. The student will be introduced to task distribution alternatives and execution of maintenance orders (simplified order processing, work order processing). The student will also be introduced to predefined queries and the history that is retained in IFS/Vehicle Information Management (IFS/VIM) and will get a quick tour of the different background jobs aimed to keep the data base healthy.

Course Length

The estimated time to complete this course is 4 hours.

Target Audience

This course was designed primarily for operation and maintenance managers who are responsible for operational planning and execution of maintenance program and modifications on serialized vehicles. Maintenance personnel executing jobs may find the predefined queries and the history retained in IFS/VIM to be of great value and help when executing daily work.

Managing Line Maintenance

This chapter takes you through the general flow for managing line maintenance activities.

In the Plan and Create Maintenance Order lesson you will learn how to specify the execution method for a maintenance task by selecting a valid distribution type. Tasks may either be distributed locally in IFS/VIM with a specified priority (typical for small tasks) or as a work order in IFS/Work Order Management (typical for large tasks). The Maintenance Order Processing lesson will give you an understanding of how to execute and report on each maintenance task when finished.

In the Assigning Additional Tasks to Maintenance Order lesson you will learn how to assign additional tasks to a maintenance order that has been released and for which work orders have been generated. In the lessons Completing the Maintenance Order and Signing Off Tasks and Maintenance Order you will learn how to set a maintenance order to the Work Done status and sign off the maintenance order and its tasks. The Concluding the Maintenance Order lesson describes how you can finish the maintenance order once the work is completed.
