Basic Data Setup

Dangerous Goods Types

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.

Routes of Entry

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to define the methods by which dangerous substances can affect persons.

  1. Ensure that the possible methods by which dangerous substances can affect persons are defined.

    Spilling
    Inhalation
    Injection

Dangerous Goods Classifications

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to define the standard classifications for dangerous goods.

Windows:

  1. Ensure that the following classification options are defined. 
    Dangerous Goods
    Classification
    NIOSH RTECS Id No
    ACS CAS Registry No
    ICSC No
    OSHA Permissible

General exercise for creating basic data for dangerous goods handling.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to show how dangerous goods handling information can be recorded.

Windows:
Dangerous Goods Information

Define Dangerous Substance

  1. Open the Dangerous Goods Information window.
  2. Create a new record to register isopropyl alcohol as a dangerous substance.
  3. In the Dangerous Goods ID field, enter IPA and enter Isopropyl Alcohol as the dangerous good name in the relevant field.
  4. Save the information.
  5. Go to the General tab and create a new record.
  6. In the Dangerous Goods Type field, enter Alcohol as the type. Select the value using the list.
  7. Enter the details of the manufacturer of the dangerous substance in the relevant fields.
  8. Go to the Dangerous Goods Classification table and create new records.
  9. Enter values for the relevant classifications of the substance according to standards. You can select classification options using the list.

Define Possible Health Effects of Substance

  1. Open the Dangerous Goods Information window and select the dangerous good which you defined in the previous procedure.
  2. Go to the Health Effects tab and create a new record.
  3. In the Route of Entry field, enter Spilling as the method by which isopropyl alcohol can harm persons.
  4. In the Danger Level field, enter Chronic. You can select one of the system defined options (chronic or acute) using the list.
  5. Describe the signs of exposure, medical conditions and emergency procedures in the relevant fields.
  6. Save the information.

Define Handling Precautions for Substance

  1. Open the Dangerous Goods Information window and select the dangerous good which you defined in the previous procedure.
  2. Go to the Handling Precautions tab and specify the handling precautions for each of the categories; Steps to follow in case substance is released or spilled, waste disposal method, precautions to be taken in handling and storing as well and any other precautions.
  3. Save the information.

Define Control Measures

  1. Open the Dangerous Goods Information window and select the dangerous good which you defined in the previous procedure.
  2. Go to the Control Measures tab create a new record.
  3. In the Equipment Name field describe the necessary equipment.
  4. Create a new record in the bottom pane of the tab and enter an environment name in the Environment Name field.
  5. Save the information.
