Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to enter or complete the setup information in IFS Accounting Rules that is required for IFS/Fixed Assets. If you have already entered this information, then skip these steps.

Preparations in IFS/Fixed Assets

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to set up the basic data required for running this functionality. In this exercise, you will specify depreciation method, book, acquisition account, base value type, calculation index, and object group.

Required Data

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up information for the object to be included in depreciation plans created in the future.

Enter Planned Objects and Planning Information

Windows:
Object

  1. Open the Object window.
  2. Create a new record, and enter the object and description.
  3. Enter the information below.

M1 Machine No 1 Planned 10 Machinery Enter the first valid date when postings can be created for the object.
  1. Click the Planning Info tab, and enter the planned acquisition value and planned acquisition date in the relevant fields.

        Note: The Planning Info tab will get enabled only when the object status is Planned or Investment.

  1. Save your changes.
  2. Click the Pre-Posting tab, and use the List of Values to select the cost center to which the object is to be posted.
  3. Select Cost Center for the Code Part Name field using the List of Values.
  4. Create a new record in the table. Select a cost center from the List of Values for the Code Part Value field and enter 50 in the Percent field.
  5. Repeat the above step to enter another cost center.
  6. Save your changes.
  7. Create your second, third, and fourth machines with similar basic data as your first machine. These machines will be needed in performing the exercises below.

Main Exercise

Create Depreciation Plan

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to create, modify and simulate postings for depreciation plans.

  1. Open the Posting Control window, and check FAP5 and FAP6  posting types.
  2. Make any necessary changes, and save them.

Note: FAP5 is for cost accounting (depreciation expense) and FAP6 is for balance accounting for depreciation (accumulated depreciation).

  1. Right-click and then click Create Depreciation Plan.

  2. Create a depreciation plan for the object group 10, Machines as shown in the table below.

    Internal Cleared Depreciation Plan for Year XXXX (current year) Enter the first and the last accounting period of the current depreciation period. Your machine object group e.g. 10 Selected Cleared

    Note: You can create the depreciation plan for object of type Normal (status Active and Investment) and Planned. It can be created for multiple years.

  3. Click OK. The depreciation plan is created, and the planned depreciation lines are displayed.

  4. Right-click in the window header and then click Simulate Postings.

  5. Right-click in the window header and click Simulated Posting Details. The Simulated Posting Details window will open. Note that postings are simulated as per the posting rules you defined in Preparations in IFS/Accounting Rules.

  6. Create another plan for the same object group (object group 10). Use the same year as in the plan created earlier but use periods 6 to 12.
  7. Click OK. The depreciation plan will be created, and the depreciation lines are displayed. Information created through the previous plan will be replaced and the status of the first plan will change to Replaced.

View Depreciation Plan Details

  2. Query for the object for which you want to view depreciation plan information.
