Basic Data Setup

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to set up record object types. These object types are used to define the type of object to which a piece of equipment belongs.

Object Types

  1. Create a new basic data record by clicking New on the toolbar, pressing F5, or double-clicking the first row in the table.
  2. Enter the following for the new object type ID: XXEM, where XX is your initials.
  3. Enter the following object type description: XXElectrical Motors, where XX is your initials.
  4. Indicate whether your object type is included in a higher-level object type. Electrical Motors should belong to the following parent object type: 160 (Motors). Select this type from the List of Values (F8).
  5. Save your changes (F12).

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to enter the characteristics that are used in the Equipment Administration course.

Characteristics

  1. Open the Equipment Basic Data window, and click the Object Types tab. 
  2. Select the object type that you created in the basic data setup exercise above.
  3. Click Attachments.
  4. Click Characteristics.
  5. In Characteristics, right click and click Select Technical Class.
  6. In the Technical Class field, use the List of Values (F8) to choose an appropriate technical class. 
  7. Click OK
  8. Right-click and then click Set to Approved. The status changes to Approved.
  9. Click the Type Designations tab, and populate it (F2).
  10. Define and create a new type designation with the object type that you entered above. Click New on the toolbar, press F5, or double-click the first row in the table.
  11. Enter the following type designation: XX1LA 063, where XX is your initials.
  12. Enter the following type designation description: XXPump Motor, where XX is your initials.
  13. Select the newly created object type, XXEM, using the List of Values (F8).
  14. Save your changes (F12).

Note: Now you can associate the object type and type designation to an equipment object.

  1. Open the Functional Object window.
  2. Populate (F2) the window and choose an optional functional object.
  3. In the Object Type field, use the List of Values (F8) to select the object type that you have just entered. 
  4. Save your changes (F12).

Note: The technical characteristics are automatically inherited by the equipment object. The technical information now appears in the Requirements tab (you may need to refresh the window to find the attached information).
