Main Exercise(s)
Purpose: To set up basic data for the use of free fields
and properties used in the
Employee window.
Create a Free Field
Windows:
Employee Free Field Definition
You will create a free field to be used in Employee/Personal/Info1.
You will also enter values for this free field for an employee.
- Open
Employee Free Field Definition and create a new record (F5).
- Set an available field number 1-10.
- Enter your property code, select from the list.

Note: If more than one person is performing this exercise,
be sure to coordinate your choices of properties to avoid duplication.
- Give the property code a description.
- Select the data type that is appropriate for your property, string,
number,
or date where string is for text. If you select date, you have to select a date
format.
- Save your changes.
- For more information about the fields, press F1.
- (Optional) Select a property code, use right-mouse-button 'View Property
Values' and enter some relevant values, e.g., cell phone brands.
Connect a Free Field to an Employee
Windows:
Employee.
- Open
Employee and populate the window (F2). Select your
employee.
- Click the Personal/Info1 tab.
- Select a field and enter a value. Use the List of Values (F8) if there are
pre-defined values for the field.
- Save your changes.
Create a Property
Windows:
Property Field Definition
You will create a property to which you can assign values for each
employee in Employee/Personal/Info2.
- Open Property Field Definition and create a new record (F5).
- Select the property context, 'Employee' or 'Person'.
- Enter your property code, select from the list.

- Tick the 'multiple records allowed' checkbox for the property if the
employee can have more than one instance of the property at the same time.
- Select the data type that is appropriate for your property, string,
number,
or date where string is for text. If you select date, you have to select a date
format.
- Save your changes.
- For more information about the fields, press F1.
- (Optional) Select a property code, use right-mouse-button 'View Property

Create a Property Code with Multiple Fields
Windows:
Property Field Definition
In this exercise you will create a property code which you can assign
to employees in Employee/Employment/Info3 tab.
Note: If more than one person is performing this exercise,
be sure to coordinate your choices of properties to avoid duplication.
- Open Property Field Definition window and create a new record (F5).
- Select the property context Employee or Person.
- Enter the property code (E.g: VEHDET) which you will use to register
details of company vehicles.
- Give the property code a description.
- Select the Multiple Records Allowed checkbox for the property.
- Select the Multiple Fields check box.
The Define Multiple Fields right-click option will now be enabled.
- Save your changes.
- Right-click and click Define Multiple Fields
to open the
Multiple Field Definition window.
- Define fields for the property code as given in
the table below.
- Select the Mandatory check box for the
fields 01, 02, and 03.
- Select the Use LoV for Validation check box
for field 01.

Connect a Property to an Employee
Windows:
Employee
In this exercise you will link properties to employees in the Employee/Employment/Info2 tab.
- Open
Employee window and populate (F2). Select your
employee.
- /Info2 tab and create a new record.
- Use the List of Values (F8) to select your property.
- Give the property a value.
- Save your changes.
In this exercise you will link properties to employees in the Employee/Employment/Info3 tab. You will be using the VEHDET property
code which you defined in the Create Property Codes with Multiple Fields
exercise.
- Open the
Employee window and populate (F2).
Select your employee.
- Info3 tab. Create a new record in the Property Code
field.
- Use the List of Values (F8) to select the property
code you defined with multiple fields (VEHDET). In the table, the fields defined for
the property code will be displayed in the order you specified when you
defined the fields.
- Create a new row in the table and enter a value
in the BRAND field. You are required to select a vehicle brand using
the List of Values because the Use LoV for Validation check box has
been selected when the field was defined.
- Enter the number of the vehicle in the NUMBER
field.
- Enter the price of the vehicle in the PRICE
field. You can only enter a numerical value since the field data type is
Number.
- If you want, you can enter the date on which the
vehicle was given to the employee in the DATE field. This field is
not mandatory.
