Introduction

The introductory chapter provides a good overview of the Design Project Delivery Product course. It gives students basic principles and key terms and a brief explanation of the main process data in this course. Moreover, one of the lessons in this chapter, Overview of Design Project Delivery Product Data, provides a good overview of the project-specific product that would be designed and the project items that would need project activity connection to plan their procurement. In the corresponding exercise, the student is given some tips through exercises on how to copy standard planned parts to his or her own site, copy the parts' product structure and routing revision, etc.

Initial Exercises

The Initial Exercises chapter includes an exercise that gives the student an overview of the flow in the Design Project Delivery Product main process. The delivery project used in the subexercises has been completely executed, i.e., from registration of the delivery project until transfer of the project product structure to IFS Maintenance. Therefore, it is used only for verifying basic flows throughout the delivery project. Even though the initial exercises are meant for instructor use, the student may find it beneficial to do them alone as a way of becoming familiar with the basic flows.

Site

When creating a site, it is always good to set the Structure Update field to Simplified. This enables you to change the product structure even if its status has already been set to Buildable. If you try to change the structure when the field is set to Restricted, you will receive an error message.

Zoom

The Zoom feature helps you set up a piece of missing basic data using the List of Values, or to become familiar with the parameters set for a particular piece of basic data. An example of this is when you try to create a manufacturing routing for a part and a work center has not been set up. With the cursor in the Work Center No field, click Zoom on the Commands menu. The Work Center window appears, where you can create the needed work center quickly.
