Copying a Delivery Project—Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Required Data

Checking an Existing Delivery Project and Creating a New Project with Site 

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the data that must be in place before you can do the the exercises below. 

  1. Check if a desired delivery project, e.g., PD–00 (Project Delivery Template Project), that you want to copy exists. 
  2. Create two new projects. The Project ID can be the first two letters XXPD, followed by the dash symbol (–) and Y, of which XX are your name initials and Y is the number of times you have created a delivery project, e.g. XXPD–01, while do the rest as seen in the following table:

  1. Connect the project to your site.

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to copy a delivery project either through IFS/Project or IFS/Project Delivery.

Copying a Delivery Project through IFS/Project

Prerequisite: If you are doing all the exercises in this course, the exercises below should be performed instead of the main exercises found in Registering a Delivery Project, Creating a Project Product Structure, and Copying Product Structures from an Existing Delivery Project exercises. 

  1. Open the Projects window and query for the first project XXPD–01 you created above. 
  2. Select the row containing the project, right-click and then click Copy Project.
  3. In the Project ID list, click PD–00.
  4. In the Project Start Date field, enter today's date.
  5. In the Copy Estimates From list, click Estimated.
  6. Select the check boxes for Sub Project, Activities, Tasks, Project Quotation List, and Delivery Project.
  7. Clear the remaining check boxes. 
  8. In the Site list, click your site.
  9. Click Next
  10. Clear all the check boxes. 
  11. Click Finish.
  12. Open the Delivery Projects window and verify that the first project XXPD–01 you created as required now exists as a delivery project.

Copying a Delivery Project through IFS/Project Delivery

Prerequisite: If you are doing all the exercises in this course, the exercises below should be performed instead of the main exercises found in both Creating a Project Product Structure and Copying Product Structures from an Existing Delivery Project exercises. 

  1. Open the Delivery Projects window.
  2. Create a new delivery project record for the second project XXPD–02. The Default Site should be your site that you connected for the project.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Select the row containing project XXPD–02, and right-click and then click Copy Project.
  5. In the Project ID list, click PD–00.
  6. In the Project Start Date field, enter today's date.
  7. In the Copy Estimates From list, click Estimated.
  8. Select the check boxes for Project Quotation List and Delivery Project.
  9. In the Site list, click your site.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click OK to the message indicating that the connections between activities and project items can not be copied. 
  12. Clear all the check boxes.
  13. Click Finish.
  14. Open the Project Product window and query for your other project XXPD–02.
  15. Click Items tab and verify that a delivery project with its project product structure has been copied.
