Establishing New Part—Key Exercises

Note: Throughout this document, please replace any occurrences of XX with your initials, group ID, user ID or other unique prefix, in order to separate your training data from that of other students.

Main Exercises

Define Engineering Parts and Manufacturers

Purpose: Entering new engineering parts to the Product Data Management (PDM) environment for use in the development stage.
 

Windows:
Engineering Parts
Part

  1. Open Engineering Parts window and create a new record.
  2. In the Part Number field, enter XX_ENG.
  3. In the Description field, enter Engine, Jet Turbine.
  4. In the Current Revision field, enter *.
  5. In the Part Class field, enter 10.
  6. In the After Delivery Serial Tracking list, click Serial Tracking.
  7. In the Inventory Serial Tracking list, click Serial Tracking.
  8. Save the record.
  9. Select the record, right-click and then click Part to open the Part window.
  10. In the General tab, select the Allow Condition Code check box in the Misc Part Settings area and save.
  11. Click the Part Manufacturer tab and create a new record in the top table.
  12. In the Manufacturer No field, enter XX_MANUF and save the record.
  13. Create a new record in the bottom table.
  14. In the Manufacturer's Part No field, enter XX_ENG and save the record.
  15. In a similar way, create the parts as shown in the table below.

Note: Parts in PDM are not attached to any particular site.

 

Create a Product Model

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to initiate the design with a product model design of the products before designing the final parts.

Windows:
Products and Models

  1. Create a new record in the Product And Models window.
  2. Enter XX_06 in Product No field and XX_Product 06 in Product Description field.
  3. In the Product type field, select a type from the List of Values and save the record.
  4. The next step is to define a model. Create a new record in the table.
  5. In the Model No field, enter XX_MOD.
  6. In the Model Description field, enter Model XX.
  7. In the Top Part Number field, enter XX_ENG.
  8. In the Top Part Revision field, enter *.
  9. Save the record.

Supply Serial Part Information

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to supply necessary serial part information for the newly created engineering parts.

Windows:
Serial Parts

  1. Open the Serial Parts window.
  2. Query for your parts using XX%.
  3. Register additional settings for your serial parts as shown in the table below.

Set Primary Operational Parameter

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set the primary operational parameter for each of the newly created serialized parts.

Windows:
Serial Parts

  1. Open the Serial Parts window.
  2. Query for your parts using XX%.
  3. Select all the parts in the Serial Parts window, right-click and then click Serial Part Click the Operational Parameters tab.
  4. Create a new record and in the field Operational Parameter and enter EHR.
  5. Select the Primary Operational Parameter check box for each of the parts.
  6. For part numbers XX_A11, XX_A12, XX_B also select the Life Limit Tracking check box.
  7. Save the record
  8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 for all your parts.

Define Maintenance Group

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to define a maintenance group for each of the newly created serialized parts.

Windows:
Serial Parts

  1. Open the Serial Parts window.
  2. Query for your parts using XX%.
  3. Select all the parts in Serial Parts window right click and then click Serial Part Info. Click the Maint Group tab.
  4. Create a new record and enter 1in the Maintenance Group field.
  5. Enter 1in the Maintenance Goup Description field.
  6. In the Average Value Rule list, click Planned Average.
  7. Save the record.
  8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 for all your parts.

Supply Operational Parameter Info

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to enter operational parameter information for one of the newly created serialized parts.

Windows:
Serial Parts

  1. Open the Serial Part window.
  2. Query for your parts using XX%.
  3. Click the Oper. Param per Maint. Group tab.
  4. In the Max Value field, enter 99999999 and save the record.
  5. Repeat step 4 for all your parts.
