Setting up Cost Sources — Exercises

IMPORTANT
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own site to maintain you data integrity. If you work within any other site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be isolated in your own site.

Basic Data Setup

Enter Commodity Groups, Labor Classes and Work Centers

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the basic data required for creating the necessary connections in the cost source set up.

Windows:
Inventory Basic Data
Manufacturing Labor Class
Work Center

  1. Open the Inventory Basic Data/Commodity Groups tab and enter the group XXSMP with description Sheet Metal Parts and group XXMSC with description Miscellaneous Parts (replace XX with your initials).
  2. Open the Manufacturing Labor Class window and enter labor class XXASS with description Assembly (replacing XX with your initials).
  3. Open the Work Center window enter work center XXWLD with description Welding (replacing XX with your initials).

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to enter cost sources, define the cost source indicator set up and connect the cost sources to the indicators.

Windows:
Cost Details Basic Data

Enter Cost Sources

  1. Open the Cost Details Basic Data/Cost Source tab and query for company 10 (or the company connected to your site).
  2. Enter the data from the table below (replacing XX with your initials).
    Cost Source Description
    XXS1 Sheet Metal Parts
    XXM1 Miscellaneous Parts
    XXA1 Dep. Assembly
    XXW1 Dep. Welding

Check the Cost Source Indicator Definition

  1. Open the Cost Details Basic Data/Cost Source Indicator Definition tab.
  2. Check that the cost source indicators for the cost types in the table is valid. If not, modify the cost source indicator for the cost types by using the Cost Source Indicator list.

    Shop Order - Labor Labor Class

Connect Cost Sources to Cost Source Indicators

  1. Open the Cost Details Basic Data/Cost Source Indicators tab.
  2. Open the Commodity Group tab.
  3. Create a connection between the commodity code XXSMP and cost source XXS1 and between commodity group XXMISC and cost source XXM1.
  4. Open the Labor Class tab.
  5. Create a connection between the labor class XXASS and cost source XXA1.
  6. Open the Work Center tab.
  7. Create a connection between the work center XXWLD and cost source XXW1.
