Restoring Archived Operational Loggings—Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to restore previously archived historical operational loggings.

Prerequisites: Before starting on this lesson the Perform Archiving of Operational Loggings exercise must be completed.

Restore Archived Operational Loggings - 1

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to restore all archived loggings within an archive ID.

  1. Open the Archiving of Operational Loggings window and populate (F2) or search (F3) for the last performed archiving.
  2. Right-click on the record and then click Restore Back Until Date. The Restore Back Until Date dialog box opens.
  3. In the Restore Back Until Date field, enter the Archive Up Until Date + one day of the archive ID prior to the archive ID you want to restore completely.
  4. In the Remark field, enter a comment concerning the restore.
  5. Select the Run in Background check box to execute the restore as a background job.
  6. Click OK to start the restoring process.
  7. Observe the record for the archive ID you restored is removed from the Archiving of Operational Loggings window.
  8. To see the result of the restore, open the Archived Operational Loggings window and observe the records are no longer present.
  9. Then go to the Serial Operational Log History List window and observe the restored records are found here.

Restore Archived Operational Loggings - 2

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to restore parts of an archived logging within an archive ID.

  1. Open the Archiving of Operational Loggings window and populate (F2) or search (F3) for the last performed archiving.
  2. Right-click on the record and then click Restore Back Until Date. The Restore Back Until Date dialog box opens.
  3. In the Restore Back Until Date field, enter a date that is, e.g., 2 days earlier than the Archive Up Until Date displayed on the archive ID you want to partly restore.
  4. Select the Run in Background check box to execute the restore as a background job.
  5. Click OK to start the restoring process.
  6. Observe the Archive Up Until Date, on the record for the archive ID you restored, has been updated and a remark has been added to the Remark field.
  7. To see the result of the restore, open the Archived Operational Loggings window and observe the records are no longer present.
  8. Then go to the Serial Operational Log History List window and observe the restored records are found here.
