Time Clock Type

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to create a Time Clock type and to help you understand the types that are available.

Windows:
Time Clock Types

  1. Open the Time Clock Types window. Populate the window and create a new entry.

  2. In the Time Clock Type field, enter an appropriate name for the Time Clock you are creating. Select a name that reflects the intended use of the Time Clock.

  3. In the Time Clock Description field, enter a brief description of the Time Clock.

  4. In the Time Out Time Clock field, specify the number of seconds that should elapse before this Time Clock resets.

Note: When you use the terminal in a location where a queue is common, e.g., a factory where everyone starts at the same time, a shorter time-out time may be desirable. In contrast, if the terminal is used in a location where more data (e.g., additional codes) must be entered, it may be appropriate to increase the time-out value.

  1. The value in the Time Out Dialog field is the number of seconds that should elapse before the dialog window closes and the main window is visible again. Enter the desired number of seconds in this field.

  2. In the Default Text in Display field, enter the greeting text that will be displayed on the terminal.

Note: In the Time Clock Types window, you enter the default values for the time-out functions. When a new Time Clock terminal is created, the default values are copied from this window to the equivalent fields in the Time Clock Terminals window. If different values are more appropriate for a specific terminal, you can change the default values in the Time Clock Terminals window. When the values differ between the two windows, Time Clock always picks the value in Time Clock Terminals. Whether the default value should be changed depends on the intended use of the terminal.

Time Clock Type Details

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to create buttons and to control the operations that they are used to initiate.

Windows:
Time Clock Type Details

  1. Open the Time Clock Type Details window. Populate the window and create a new entry.

  2. Select the Time Clock type that you created in the previous exercise, using the List of Values.

  3. Use the List of Values in the Time Clock Object Name field to create the buttons. The Help button should appear on every page and the In and Out buttons should appear side by side on the first page. Use the List of Values and select the NEWZPOS2 and NEWZPOS3 in the Time Clock Object Name field to create the In Misc and Out Misc buttons on the terminal. The In Misc and Out Misc buttons should appear directly below the In and Out buttons.

  4. Specify where you want the buttons to appear on the screen:

  1. The X value represents the horizontal position on the Time Clock.
  2. The Y value represents the vertical position on the Time Clock.
  3. The Z value determines the page on which you want the button to appear.
  4. If you select a Z position of 0 (zero), the button will appear on every page.
  1. Select the colors and pictures you want for the buttons.

  2. Following the aforementioned instructions, create the following buttons: In Comp, Out Comp, In Cash, Out Cash, In Abs, and Out Abs.  The In Comp, In Cash, and In Abs buttons should appear on the second page, after you click on the In Misc button, and the Out Comp, Out Cash and Out Abs buttons should appear on the third page when you click Out Misc.

  3. If you select the Card Driven Execution check box, Time Clock cannot be used unless the card is present. For the purpose of this exercise, this field should be left blank.

Note: By setting up the appropriate buttons, you choose the number of operations that can be performed. Different Time Clocks can be set up to accommodate the varying needs that may exist within a company. When IFS Applications is installed, several predefined Time Clock types with the most frequently used buttons are installed.

Time Clock Type Detail Items

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to change the default values assigned to the Time Clock buttons.

Windows:
Time Clock Type Detail Items

  1. Note the values in the Visible, Mandatory, and Editable fields.

  2. Try to determine the consequences of changing them.

Note: Only the system administrator should change the values in the LOV View, LOV Where, and LOV Mandatory Parameters fields. Use this window to view and change the properties of the data fields available for a specific Time Clock type detail in the dialog window of the Time Clock terminal. The rows in this window are generated when a row is created in the Time Clock Type Detail Items window.

Time Clock Terminals

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to connect users to the appropriate Time Clock.

Windows:
Time Clock Terminals

  1. Connect your user ID to the Time Clock you created in the previous steps. If multiple users are connected to the same Time Clock, you can adjust the time-out period in the Time Clock Terminals window to better suit the location of the specific terminal.

  2. Select the background and text colors for your Time Clock. Also specify whether to display a keyboard and background picture.

  3. Assign the default company to the Time Clock in the Default Company column that the instructor gave you.

Note: The user ID (identified at the initial logon) determines which information is displayed on the Time Clock terminal.

Viewing and Changing Values in Time Clock

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate the flexibility and the options available in the Time Clock. You will experiment with different designs, functions, and appearances.

  1. Open the Time Clock window and search for the Time Clock that you created in the exercises above. Try changing the appearance of the terminal by performing the changes described in the following steps. Ensure to open the Time Clock before and after each change to view the results.

  2. Open the Time Clock Type Details window. Change the positions and colors of the buttons and check to see whether the Z position that you selected works. Do you have several pages or layers? What happens when you change the Card Driven Execution field and try to enter data in Time Clock?

  3. Open the Time Clock Type Detail Items window. Change the values in the Editable, Visible, and Mandatory fields and note how these changes affect the functionality of the Time Clock.

  4. Open the Time Clock Terminals window. Change the value in the Time Out, Background & Text Color, and Numeric Keyboard fields, and note how these changes affect the Time Clock.

  5. Open the Time Clock Terminals window. Change the Time Clock type that is connected to your user ID. Open the Time Clock window and view the different types of Time Clocks that are available from the installation of IFS Applications.
