System Definitions—Key Exercises

Main Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to demonstrate how system definitions are edited.

Windows:
System Definitions

Note: You can find more information about how to edit the system definitions for a specific module in the online help and training material for that specific module.

Editing System Definitions

  1. Open the System Definition window.
  2. Click the Attribute Definition tab.
  3. Populate the tab.
  4. Review the available attributes.

Note: The attributes available under this tab depend on what IFS Application modules are installed at your site. Not all modules have configurable attributes.

  1. Select an attribute (e.g. the PHONE attribute that has SupplierInfoAddress defined for the Base Unit LU field) and change the value in the Length field to 15.
  2. Save the changes.

Note: By specifying a value in the Length field, you restrict the length of the attribute. In this case, the supplier phone numbers can be no longer than 15 characters.

Editing Object Property

  1. Click the Object Property tab.
  2. Populate the tab.
  3. Review the available object definitions.
  4. Perform a query and enter PERSON in Object Key field as the search criterion.
  5. The query should show the following result:
Object LU Object Key Property Name Property Value
PartyType PERSON VALID_ADDR VISIT,HOME
  1. Place the cursor in the  Property Value field and remove the VISIT value (use the delete key).
  2. Save the change.

Note: You can see the result of your changes by opening the Person  window and clicking the Address tab. When creating a new address for a person, the Address Type list will show two valid values from which to choose before the change. After the change, only Home will be a valid choice.
