Reuse Serial

Explanation

This activity is used to reuse a scrapped serial. A serial can only be reused when the operational status of the serial is Scrapped. If the current maintenance program revision of a scrapped serial has been set obsolete, the serial will not be updated with the new active revision of the maintenance program. Therefore, you will not be allowed to reuse this serial till a valid active maintenance program revision is connected to it. Maintenance programs are connected to serials using the Change Maintenance Program On Serial assistant.

Prerequisites

• The serial should have an operational status of Scrapped.
• The serial is connected to an invalid maintenance program revision.

System Effects

• A valid active maintenance program revision is connected to the serial.
• The operational status of the reused serial is set to Out Of Operation.
• The current position of the reused serial is set to In Facility.
• All due calculations for the serial will run automatically to calculate due dates and values.
• A history record is generated for the reused serial in the Part Serial History window.

Procedure

1. Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for the necessary serial.
2. Click the General tab.
3. Right-click on the tab, point to Status and then click Reuse.
4. An error message is displayed if the maintenance program for the serial is obsolete. Before you can continue with the procedure you need to connect a valid active maintenance program revision to the serial. Use the Change Maintenance Program On Serial assistant to change the maintenance program for the serial. For more information on how to use this assistant, refer to the activity Change Maintenance Program and/or Maintenance Group for Structure.
5. Once the valid active maintenance program revision is connected to the serial, right-click on the tab, point to Status and then click Reuse.
6. The Change Condition Code dialog box opens if a condition code has been defined for the serial, i.e., in the Condition Code field on the Part Serial window.
7. In the To area, enter the new condition in the Condition Code field. Click List to select a valid value.
8. Click OK and observe the operational status of the reused serial is changed to Out Of Operation.
