Enter Characteristics

Explanation

This activity is used to enter and update relevant optional characteristic information by applying a characteristic template. This information could be dimensions, colors, or some other characteristic for a part. Characteristics are used to group parts and to search for them according to their similar characteristics/attributes. Sales parts can have variable characteristic codes and discrete characteristic codes connected to them. Also templates which have variable characteristic codes and/or discrete characteristic codes can be connected to non-inventory sales parts.

Note: These sales part characteristics are not the same as configuration characteristics, which are used with CTO functionality. There is no link between the sales part characteristics and either the inventory part characteristics or the purchase part characteristics.

Procedure

  1. Open the appropriate window, and either populate or query for the desired sales part.
  2. Click the Characteristics tab.
  3. Select the short code of a template in the Characteristic Template field, using the List of Values
  4. The full name of the template will be retrieved to the field next to the code, while template characteristics will be retrieved into the table below.
  5. Enter the relevant values in the Attribute Value Numeric and/or Attribute Value Alpha fields.
  6. Change, if requested, the unit of measure in the U/M field.
  7. Save the record.
