Make Supply Chain Reservation

Explanation

This activity is similar to the activity Make Manual Reservations, with the difference that reservations for this activity are made against the supply site in an internal order flow.

Basically, whenever you sell stored parts that have been purchased from internal suppliers (the other site in the application), you are able to reserve the parts on the supply site before the customer order on demand site is released.

You can use this procedure whenever you want to reserve order lines that otherwise would be stopped because the customer has exceeded his or her credit limit. You can also use the procedure when you want to reserve WDR and expired parts.

There are three valid choices when performing supply chain reservations on a customer order line:

Manual Reservation:
You manually allocate how many parts are going to be reserved. You can also choose the inventory location from which the parts will be picked. Since manual reservation is done online, you can ensure that the parts are available and reserved immediately. You cannot reserve more parts than stated in the order line. Reservations may be changed until the corresponding internal customer order has been created.

Automatic Reservation:
The system selects the locations from which the part should be reserved. If defined on the inventory part, an ATP check is performed on the supply site. Partial reservations will be handled according to the back order option selected for the customer or customer order.

Instant Reservation: An automatic reservation on the supply site is performed as soon as the customer order line is saved.

After the supply site reservation is performed, you can always un-reserve or change the reservation using the manual supply site reservation.

You can perform all these actions on single-handled parts as well as pallet-handled parts. The procedures are similar but not identical. It can also be performed on component lines for a package part.

When changing the reservation for pallets, you can reduce the quantity to deliver by un-reserving pallets. You can also un-reserve one pallet and reserve another for the same order.

Prerequisites

System Effects

The stored sales parts are reserved on the supply site for this particular order at the desired inventory location.
Reservations will be connected to the customer order on the demand site until the internal customer order is created. When that happens, the reservation will be transferred to the internal customer order.

When the supply site reservation type is set to Manual:

  2. On the dialog box that appears, choose between the two available options: Manual Reservation and Automatic Reservation.

Note: When using the Automatic Reservation option, reservation is done automatically.

For Manual Reservation, the following actions can be performed:

Reserve single-handled parts:

  1. On the Single tab, select the line where the appropriate location is displayed.

  2. To reserve the pallet, select the Reserved check box in the corresponding line.
Alternatively, to mark the appropriate line, right-click in the lower part of the window and then click Reserve.
  3. Click Save to complete the reservation.

Un-reserve single handled parts:

  1. On the Single tab, select the line that has already been reserved.

Alternatively, to un-reserve the appropriate line, right-click in the lower part of the window and then click Unreserve.
  3. Click Save to cancel the reservation.

Change reservation of single handled parts:

  1. On the Single tab, select the line that has already been reserved.
  2. Enter the new quantity to be reserved in the Qty Reserved field.
For example, if you have previously reserved 10 parts and now want only 8 parts to be reserved, indicate 8 parts instead of 10 in the Qty Reserved field.
  3. Click Save to change the reservation.

Change reservation of pallet-handled parts:

  1. On the Pallet tab, select the line of pallet that has already been reserved.
  2. To un-reserve the pallet, clear the Reserved check box in the corresponding line.
Alternatively, to un-reserve the appropriate line, right-click in the lower part of the window and then click Unreserve.
  3. Select the line of the new pallets to be reserved.
  4. To reserve the pallet, select the Reserved check box in the corresponding line.
Alternatively, to reserve the appropriate line, right-click in the lower part of the window and then click Reserve.
  5. Click Save to change the reservation.

When the supply site reservation type is set to Instant, an automatic reservation is performed as soon as the customer order line is saved.

After using either Automatic Reservation or Instant Reservation, you can always change or un-reserve parts using Manual Reservation.
