Schedule Batch Job

Some jobs that are performed in the Planning module are time-consuming, e.g., the MRP calculation, PMRP Calculation or Master Scheduling calculation. These jobs can require accessing countless records in the database, so performing the calculation during a workday may decrease database performance for you as the user. Sometimes, the results from these jobs are needed as prerequisites for other work in the system. For these reasons, it is advantageous to run batch jobs during times when demands on the system are minimal, such as at midnight or on the weekend. By scheduling batch jobs to be run during off-hours, there is less strain on database performance during normal working hours. Another advantage is that the jobs can be performed before the results are actually needed by any system user for his or her related work, thereby eliminating the time spent waiting for the system to perform the job on-line.

You can schedule batch jobs in all of the planning module components (CRP, Master Schedule, MRP, PMRP, RRP and Project MS). The first step in scheduling a batch job is to view existing scheduled jobs so that you do not schedule a new job to be run at a time that conflicts with an existing job. Note that conflicting jobs are in competition for the same database resources and can result in system errors that prevent the jobs from running to completion. To avoid errors due to conflicting jobs, do not overlap jobs. For example, if a job requiring three hours to run is scheduled for 8:00 pm on Sunday, a new job requiring access to some of the same records should not be scheduled to start until after 11:00 pm on Sunday.

Use the Scheduled Database Tasks window to view all scheduled jobs in order to identify potentially conflicting jobs.

To schedule a new job, click the Schedule option in the appropriate dialog boxes. It will open a common window called New Database Task Schedule, which contains job parameters that are specific to the type of job you are scheduling, and the day and time options for scheduling the job.
