Enter Root Cause Information

Explanation

This activity is used to define or edit root causes. When creating a non conformance report (NCR), a root cause is associated with the non conformance or potential non conformance. For example lack of training, defective raw material, defective equipment, etc.

Procedure

  1. Click the Root Cause tab in the Non Conformance Report Basic Data window.
  2. Create a new record.
  3. In the Root Cause ID column, enter a short code for the root cause. Entering a value in this field is mandatory and once saved, this value cannot be edited.
  4. In the Description column, enter a description of the root cause.
  5. In the Notes column, enter a note regarding the root cause. Entering a value in this field is optional.
  6. Save when complete.

Optional step (remember to save your entries):

A root cause record can be set as obsolete so that it cannot be used in new non conformance reports. Setting a root cause record to obsolete will not affect any existing use of it.

  1. To set a root cause record to obsolete, select the Obsolete check box for the required record.
  2. Save when complete.

Note: You can translate the description into different languages using the basic data translation functionality. Select a record, right-click and then click Translation. In the Basic Data Translation window, enter descriptions per language.
