Copy Template Structure

Explanation

This activity is used to copy data from one template structure to a template structure that is in the Preliminary status. You can choose to keep the structure positions belonging to the template from which data is to be copied or generate new structure positions. 

You can choose to copy all or preferred information to the template structure. Following are the options you can copy from one template structure to another:

• Alternates per structure position
• Alternates per template
• Dependencies
• Connection to Functions/Function Structure
• Alternates per structure position introduced by modifications
• Alternates per template introduced by modifications

Prerequisites

• A template structure to copy data from must exist. 
• The top node of the template structure to copy data to must exist.

System Effects

A new template structure will be created and set to the Preliminary status, selected information will be copied to this structure.

Procedure

1. Open the Serial Structure Template window and query (F3) for the template structure to which you want to copy information. You can also perform these steps by using the Template Structure Navigator window.

• Right-click in the header of the window or the General tab and then click Copy Template Structure.
• Or, click the Consist Of or Multilevel tab, select the row that holds the part for which you want to copy information, right-click and then click Copy Template Structure.
• If you are working in the Template Structure Navigator window, right-click on the General tab and then click Copy Template Structure or click the Consist Of tab, select the row that holds the part for which you want to copy information, right-click and then click Copy Template Structure.

2. The first step of the Copy Template Structure assistant will open. 
3. In the Templ. Part No/Rev field, click List to select the template structure from which data is to be copied.
4. Enter a structure position of the template structure from which data is to be copied in the Structure Position field. Click List to select a value.
5. If you want to keep the existing structure positions of the template structure from which data is to be copied, select the Keep existing Structure Positions in new Structure check box. Note: If this check box is not selected structure dependencies cannot be copied.
6. In the Copy Detailed Information area, select the check box(es) that illustrate the information you want copied to the template structure in the Preliminary status.
7. Click Finish if you do not want to copy position and/or template alternates introduced by modifications. If you choose to copy the position and/or alternates that are 'modification-introduced' by selecting the relevant check box(es), click Next.
8. The second step of the Copy Template Structure assistant will open.
9. Click Select All to view all entries for 'modification-introduced' alternates in the table.
10. Select the Copy to Template check box if you want to copy alternates introduced from modifications to the selected template structure.   
11. Click Finish.
