Select Alternate Component

Explanation

This activity is used to choose an alternate component when there is a shortage of primary components. This activity is beneficial to companies using components with similar specifications, produced by different manufacturers.

Prerequisites

Alternate components must exist. 

System Effects

As a result of this activity, you can select an alternate component for shop order components. You can select an order in which the primary components will be replaced by the alternate components.

Procedure

1. Open the Shop Order window and query for the part number.
2. Click the Material tab.
3. Right-click, point to Alternate Components and click Select. 
4. The Substitution Alternate Part for Material Line dialog box opens with all the alternate components for the selected shop order component.
5. Specify the quantity to be replaced.
6. Click OK to replace the shop order component with the selected alternate component.
