Reserve Lot Batch Numbers

Explanation

Use this activity to reserve lot/batch numbers for a specific shop order. The reserved lot/batch numbers are used when the system receives parts into inventory.

Note: If the shop order is for a part that allows more than one batch (or lot), you will typically want to decide whether it is more important for you to specify the number of batches or the quantity per batch. Once you specify a value in one of these fields, the system will calculate the other value. You can make manual changes to the value calculated by the system, but the system will not adjust the other field for the changes. After you enter the information, the system creates the appropriate set of lot/batch reservations records.

Prerequisites

This activity requires that the parts be defined as inventory lot tracking parts in Part.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, the system reserves lot/batch numbers for a specific shop order. This reserved lot/batch numbers are used when receiving the parts into inventory.

When the part is set to use order-based lot-tracking, the shop order will automatically reserve a single lot/batch number for the entire quantity on the shop order. If you are producing a part that allows multiple lot/batches per production order, you can reduce the quantity of the system-defined lot/batch reservation and create one or more new reservations, such that the total lot quantity of the order matches the total of the reserved lot/batches.
