Release Outside Operation

Explanation

Use this activity to create a purchase requisition for an outside operation. The status of the operation will not be changed to Released due to this action. This is helpful when you want to release a purchase requisition earlier than you normally might do so, for e.g., when you release the shop order.

Releasing an outside operation on a shop order creates a purchase requisition or an order line for the outside operation based on the outside supply type. 

Prerequisites

• A shop order that includes an outside operation must exist in the Planned status.
• The outside operation must not have been included in a purchase requisition.
• The outside operation supply type must have been defined. 

System Effects

As a result of this activity,

• The system creates a purchase requisition for the outside operation. The new purchase requisition number appears in the Purchase Requisitions window, as well as in the Subcontract tab of the Report Work Center Operation or Report Shop Order Operation window.
• When the shop order is released, a purchase order or a purchase requisition will be created for the outside operation based on the outside operation supply type.
  Example:  If the outside operation supply type is Requisition, a purchase requisition will be created. 
                  If the outside operation supply type is Planned Order, a purchase order will be created.
                  If the outside operation supply type is Released Order, a purchase order will be created and released.

Procedure

From the Shop Order window:

1. Select one or more outside operations from either:
   • the Operation tab of the Shop Order window
   • the Subcontract tab of the Report Work Center Operation window.
2. Right-click and then click Release Outside Operation.
3. When you are asked whether you want to release the outside operation earlier (than the start date), click Yes. The system now creates a purchase requisition or a purchase order line in the status of Planned or Released (depending on the outside operation supply type) for each selected operation and displays it in the Purchase Requisitions / Purchase Orders window, as well as in the Subcontract tab of the Report Work Center Operation or Report Shop Order Operation window.

From the Shop Order Operations window:

1. Select one or more outside operations.
2. Right-click and then click Release Outside Operation.
3. When you are asked whether you want to release the outside operation earlier (than the start date), click Yes. The system now creates a purchase requisition or a purchase order line in the status of Planned or Released (depending on the outside operation supply type) for each selected operation and displays it in the Purchase Requisitions / Purchase Orders window, as well as in the Subcontract tab of the Report Work Center Operation or Report Shop Order Operation window.
