Transfer Company Owned to Company Rental Asset
Explanation
This activity is to transfer the company-owned stock to
company rental asset. With this transfer, the inventory value will be moved from
an
inventory general ledger account to a fixed asset acquisition account. You can
also set up
posting controls to post the transaction to a fixed asset object.
Prerequisites
- Set up posting type M257 in posting control.
- Optionally set up M259 in posting control to use
pre accounting or use a combination of M257 and M259 posting types for
different code parts.
- Company-owned stock should exists in specific
inventory location and no reserved or transit quantity should exist.
- The quantities should not exist in rotable part
pools and stock should not be frozen for counting.
- Stock should not be in project inventory.
- Transfer of ownership is only allowed for parts
that have been received into a stock location. i.e., transfer is not allowed
when a part is in-arrival, pallet arrival, QA or pallet OA locations and it
is not allowed in pallet or shipment locations.
System Effects
- The ownership of the transferred parts in inventory and
in Part Serial window becomes Company Rental Asset.
- Postings are created with debit posting type M257,
Transfer from Company Owned to Company Rental Asset, and
credit posting type M1, Inventory.
- If the line is posted to a fixed asset object, a
system defined link to this object will be created on the
Company
Rental Assets tab in the Part Serial window.

Procedure
- Query for the appropriate inventory parts in stock.
- Select one line that you want to transfer,
right-click and point to Ownership Transfer and click Transfer
Company Owned to Company Rental Asset.
- Set the preposting information if you have set up
pre-accounting postings.
- Click OK.
