Enter Product Codes

Explanation

Use this activity to enter product codes. This optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person. Product code information is manufacturing related and is used in IFS Manufacturing to group parts in product structures.

The product code *, Common, is predefined when the system is installed. Product Code is an optional field in the Inventory Part/General tab. By creating product codes and linking similar types of parts to the same product code, you can simplify searches.

There are no prerequisites.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• A product code is created.
• Product codes can be used in IFS Manufacturing to group parts within product structures.
• If a product code is linked to any inventory part records, it cannot be deleted. However, the description can be changed at any time.
• You can search for parts with the same product code.

Procedure

1. Open the Inventory Basic Data window.
2. Click the Product Codes tab, and select New.
3. Using no more than 5 alphanumeric characters, enter the product code.
4. Enter a product description.
5. Save the changes.
