Add, Remove or Change Serial Number Range

Explanation

This activity is used to add, remove or change an existing serial number range for an active modification revision. This function is useful when erroneous serials are assigned to the modification. By changing the existing serial range, new serials are assigned and serials that are already assigned but do not match the new range are removed. It is also possible to add a new serial number range or remove an existing one.

Prerequisites

The modification revision on which a serial number range is to be added, changed or removed must have been created. This modification revision should have an assignment type of By Serial Range and be in the Active status.

System Effects

• New serials can be assigned to an existing serial range and already assigned serials can be removed from the modification.
• A new serial range can be defined in addition to the existing serial ranges.
• A serial range can be removed completely.
• The due calculation for the modification will run automatically for all serials to calculate due dates and values.

Procedure

Follow this procedure to add a serial number range to the active modification revision:

1. Open the Define Modification window and query (F3) for the modification revision you want.
2. Click the Serial Range tab.
3. Right-click anywhere in the table, and then click Add Serial Range. The Add Serial Range dialog box opens.
4. In the Part Number field, enter the part number for which a new serial range is to be created. Click List to select a value.
5. In the Serial Number Range field, enter the new serial number range.
6. Click OK.

Follow this procedure to remove an existing serial number range from the active modification revision:

1. Open the Define Modification window and query (F3) for the modification revision you want.
2. Click the Serial Range tab.
3. Select the row that contains the serial range you want removed, right-click and click Remove Serial Range.
4. An informational message will appear. Click Yes to confirm the action.

Follow this procedure to change an existing serial number range on the active modification revision:

1. Open the Define Modification window and query (F3) for the modification revision you want.
2. Click the Serial Range tab.
3. Select the row that contains the serial range you want changed, right-click and click Change Serial Range. The Change Serial No Range dialog box opens.
4. In the Enter new Serial Number Range field, modify the existing serial number range to the value you want.
5. Click OK.
