Use this dialog box to identify serial numbers whenever the need arises.
If a part is using serial tracking at receipt and issue but not serial tracking in inventory, many business processes initially do not require identified serial numbers. However, sooner or later the serial numbers need to be identified.
This dialog box is used in several different situations. Either it is opened manually if you want to identify a specific serial in stock, even if the normal setting for the part is that serials are not tracked in inventory. This could for instance be the case if you need to send the specific serial on external service and then want to distinguish this particular part from the other parts in stock. In the other situations it will open automatically whenever there is a need to identify serial numbers for a part that is using serial tracking only at receipt and issue. It is never used for a part that is using serial tracking in inventory.
