Establish New Engineering Part

This page leads you through the steps for creating a new engineering part. The sections included are: 

Prerequisites 
  1. Define the standard name for the part in the Product Basic Data/Std Name Lang tab. 
  2. Define a class in the Product Basic Data/Classes tab.
  3. Define a main group in Product Basic Data/Main Group tab.

Steps

In the Engineering Parts or Part/Engineering/Part Detail windows:

  1. Create a new engineering part record by clicking the New button in the toolbar, or by right-clicking in the window and then clicking Create New Part. 

Note: You can also create a new engineering part by using the Create New Engineering Part wizard. Creating a new part in any of the above windows or in the wizard also creates a new Part Catalog record for the part.

  1. Enter the mandatory fields, i.e., standard name, description, and ISO unit. This requires that only the first prerequisite has been done. If you leave the part number field blank, the system will generate one for you. If you do not clear the Current Revision field, you also will generate the first engineering part revision. You also can fill in more fields, but if you do, you must first complete the second and third prerequisites.
  2. Enable serial tracking for the part by selecting the After Delivery Serial Tracking check box on the Part Catalog record for the part. You also can select the Inventory Serial Tracking check box if you want full serial tracking through the inventory.
