Enter Product Functions

Explanation

Before you can connect any functions to a product model, the functions must be defined. 

Engineering functions are the real building blocks of a product and can consist of other engineering functions or engineering parts. They allow you to organize a product structure so that it may be used in multiple disciplines. Product functions allow you to construct a product without entering all of the product's properties. A function may initially be used for maintaining information about parts categories and values. Although functions can be used without any attached parts, they will not be buildable. 

After registering a product model, you can connect its functions and then create a function structure. A function may only be deleted if no components have been attached.

This activity has the following prerequisites:

• None.

As a result of this activity:

• Functions can be connected to a model.
• The functions may be further defined into actual parts, once they are known or designed, in the Product Model Information/Functions window.
• Part revisions can be connected to the functions on the lowest level in the function structure.

Procedure

To perform this activity, follow these steps:

1. Open the Product Basic Data window and click the Functions tab.
2. Create a new record.
3. In the Function No field, enter up to 30 alphanumeric characters for the ID.
4. In the Description field, enter the description.
5. To add a note describing the function in more detail, use the Note field.
6. Save the changes.
