Connect Family to Part
Explanation
Use this activity when you want to connect a configuration family to a part. A
configuration
family is a collection of configuration characteristics used by a group of parts.
Note that this process cannot be changed once you have connected a
configuration family to a configurable part. It is possible to enable whether it
should be possible to manually add and remove components (both configurable and
not configurable) and operations within the DOP structure for the configurable
part.
Prerequisites
- IFS/Configuration Back Office and IFS/Configuration
Characteristic must be installed.
- The configuration family must be created.
- The configuration characteristics
should be
connected to the configuration family.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, a family is connected to a configurable part.

Procedure
- Open the Part window and query for the part you want to connect
to a family.
- Click the Part Configuration Revision tab.
- In the Config Family ID field, select a family using the List of values.
- In the Phase Out Date field, enter a phase out date, if desired.
- Enter a note if desired, in the Note field.
- Optionally, select the Allow changes to created
DOP structure check box.
- Save your changes.
- When prompted to copy all family characteristics, click Yes to copy all
family characteristics or No to not copy them. The new Spec Revision No appears.
