Calculate Part Cost - Selected Parts
Explanation
Use this activity to calculate costs for several selected parts. Costs can be
calculated for one level or for all levels of the selected parts. You can have
the calculation stop at selected parts and not roll up their costs. This means
that the cost calculation does not continue further up the structure than that
part. The value can be one of the following:
- Not Stop Cost Rollup - The calculation will not stop at this part
level in the structure.
- Stop Cost Rollup - This will stop the cost calculation from going
any further up in the structure.
You can use the existing Cost Set Estimated Material Cost values in the
calculation or copy the inventory part Estimated Material Cost values to the
Cost Set Estimated Material Cost before performing the calculation.
Calculate Part Cost - Selected Parts will be disabled if part with
planning method K - Blow Through, T - Master Schedule Blow
Through Part or O - Level 0 Part is selected.
This check will reduce the performance if large amount of data is selected.
Note: You cannot perform a cost calculation for cost set 1. This
optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- More than one part cost record must be selected.
- The cost set for which you are performing the calculation must have the
costs defined.
- If by-product cost distribution is used, a structure with at least one
by-product must exist.
- Calculation of costs using by-product cost distribution will require
that the by-product cost distribution basic data has been entered for the
manufacturing structure using the
Product Structure,
Recipe Structure, or
Configuration Structure window.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- The costs for the selected parts are calculated and the results are
saved in the relevant cost set.
- Cost comparisons for a part can be calculated across different cost
sets. This allows you to determine the parts that should be transferred into
cost set 1 for the purposes of standard costing.
- If the by-product cost distribution is used, the cost will be determined
for the primary product by subtracting the costs distributed among the
by-products, otherwise, the costs of the by-products, if any, will be
subtracted.
- If the Copy Estimated Material Cost from Inventory Part check box
is selected, estimated material cost in inventory part will be taken as the
estimated material cost for the part for the cost set and will be copied in
to the Cost Set Estimated Material Cost field.
- If the Run in Background check box is selected, the calculation
will run as a background job.

Procedure
- Populate or query for the required records in the
Part Costs window.
- Select the records for which you wish to do the calculation.
- Right-click, point to Cost Calculations and then click
Calculate Part Cost - Selected Parts.
- On the dialog box that appears, select whether the calculation must be
done for one level or for all levels of a part.
- On the Stop Cost Roll list, select Stop Cost Rollup to
stop the cost calculation from going any further up in the structure.
- Enter a date in the Effective Date field. The structure and
routings valid for this date will be used for the calculation.
- Select the Copy Estimated Material Cost from Inventory Part check
box to copy the estimated material cost to the Cost Set Estimated
Material Cost field.
- Select the Run in Background check box to run the calculation as
a background job.
- Click OK.
